"Tuffy" and Mae
Tuffy belongs to one of our current patients, Mae, a elderly woman who loves him dearly. Tuffy, for his part, also adores his owner, but when it comes to other people, well, let's just say he can be a pit bull in a weenie-dog body. He's only like this when he thinks someone is going to harm Mae by reaching toward her, but that makes it challenging for our staff to do their jobs in caring for her. I have to say that I have lost my heart to Tuffy, in spite of the fact that he can be challenging to work with at times. As little as he is, he understands that his job is to protect his owner and he is willing to sacrifice his own well-being in order to do that. I can't think of too many friends that would do that for me or anyone else. Our staff understands this bond that they have and we do all that we can to work with Tuffy and make it possible for him to stay with his owner. We have figured out ways to manage his anxiety and still care for our patient. I'm so glad that I work with people who want the best for our patients and their pet companions.
